146. Experience Serenity at a Lotus Temple

   Author : U.E.C.

Post

These days one of the hottest relaxation trends is heading into the wilderness to stay a few days in the serenity of a Buddhist temple. A mountain temple provides the perfect way to escape the hustle of the city and get back in touch with nature while also resting mind and body.

Temples offer specially themed experiences including Chamseon (Zen meditation), Yoga and Dado (tea ceremony). Take the Youngpyung Temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism in Janggi-myeon. There are always flowers around the temple, but the Sacred Lotus in the summer, and the Siberian Chrysanthemum in the fall are truly amazing.

The temple¡¯s unique ¡°package¡± is naturally to do with flowers. It is the Sacred Lotus Tea Temple Stay. Offered all year round, it provides a chance not only to experience regular temple life but also to sample tea they have harvested and made themselves.

In October, when the Youngpyung Temple is entirely covered in the white Siberian Chrysanthemums for a whole month, it hosts a festival named after the flower. During peak times, hundreds can show up, and over the whole of last year, some 70,000 sought the respite of the temple.
