		Home Page Population : 273,086 Gunsan is located on a point by which 36 degrees north latitude at the edge of Geum River passes. It is on a similar latitude with Pohang of our country, Qingdao of China and Yokohama of Japan. Seosu-myeon is famous in the east and a beautiful lighthouse is famous in the west. Its boundaries include Eocheong Island where the Naval Forces are stationed, Bian Island in the south whose name was derived from a gull's flying view, and Wonnapo, Napo-myeon in the north. Also, Gusan is on the left end of Geum River and the Honam Plain is in the back. As hub port of the West Sea, it is adjacent to Iksan-si, Gimjae-si, Buan-gun, Seocheon-gun and Boryeong-gun, and connected from Jeonju through Iksan toward Gunsan. The left side of the city is full of islands in the sea, and the south and east consist of plains and low mountains. The area of Gunsan-si is 376,37k㎡. This amounts to about 0.4% of the total area of our national territory at 99,407k㎡ and about 0.6% of the total area of Jeollabuk-do territory at 8,047.54k㎡. Gunsan is 231.5㎞ away from Seoul, 337.5㎞ from Busan, 140.0㎞ from Gwangju, and 47.9㎞ from Jeonju. As a hub port city of the West Sea with the Honam Plain on the left end of Geum River as the back ground, it is adjacent to Iksan, Gimjae-si, Buan, Seocheon-gun and Janghang-eup.
